Stylish Edinburgh International Fashion Festival Spectacular

Scottish salon team Jason Hall Hairdressing assisted neighboring Gary Lees of Lees & Thompson recently at Edinburgh International Fashion Festival for four exciting and absorbing days.  The schedule presented an original programme of talks screenings, exhibits, runway shows and after-show parties at Summerhall.   There was a special focus on the relationships between fashion and science, design, art and architecture, taking a look behind the curtain to observe ideas at their genesis.

Central to the festival, the Dissection Room hosted spectacular runway shows and after-show parties featuring live bands, DJs and screenings. The line-up included the dark, fairy-tale visions of Danish designer Borcher plus a ‘home coming’ for cult, Scottish designer Pam Hogg. Aimee McWilliams and Bebaroque provided further catwalk evidence that Scottish design talent is a global export. There was also an opportunity for recent graduates to showcase their talents in ‘Fresh Cuts 2012’ while Harvey Nichols hosted a Gala Show in aid of Maggie’s with famed chef Mark Greenaway presenting his culinary skills as part of the event.

The Fashion Festival also presented events and exhibits off-site from Summerhall, namely at the National Museum of Scotland, the French Institute in Scotland and the Danish Cultural Institute. Also, for ‘Art Late’, the Fashion Festival joins up with the Edinburgh Art Festival to present a dramatic pop-up with pieces from Pleats Please Issey Miyake interacting with contemporary artist Callum Innes’ light installation under Regent Bridge.

When asked about crafting the styles for the shows Salon Owner Jason Hall explained ‘For Bebaroque the theme was modern day mermaids.  We achieved this by using 0 by Cloud9 rollers on all models pulling hair from the front back to the crown setting all the hair in medium sized rollers.  Having left it to cool for 20 minutes we then pulled out the curls into soft waves applying L’Oreal Professional Gloss Spray for a sleek sensual look’.

Highlighting the Pam Hogg show Jason said ‘Pam Hogg knew exactly what she wanted, radiated beauty in the form of poker straight hair.  Along with head pieces we used Cloud9 irons and lightly applied L’Oreal Professional Tecni Art Metallic Gloss.

Pleats was the showcased collection by Issey Miyaki that pointed to an obvious yet tailored choice for the runway show.  Challenged to craft a suitable look Jason tells us ‘We created loose a variation of pleats stitching inverted loose pleats and dressed pleats to frame the models faces’.
